Does technology function at the human level?

Do we know all the functions of our remote controls, microwaves, washing machine? Do we understand all the settings on our smartphones and laptops?  Great if we do but as a population I do not believe this is the case.  Technology could provide a huge benefit to all our communities, but I see it failing to be accessible in many areas.  I consider the public & third sectors are where small improvements could make a big difference, with my personal focus being on public health due to family connections & experiences.

I’ve spent my working life as a freelancer working for technology companies such as Vodafone, Cable & Wireless, Virgin Media, IBM, Sage and NTT DATA performing various roles from developer, implementor, solution designer to programme manager in the UK, Europe, Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean.  I have a BSc and MSc in Commercial Computing from the Open University that I gained through studying part time, with my dissertation examining how we can reuse existing user interfaces to bypass IT backlogs.  With this background of knowledge & experience, I plan to examine how we can move towards delivering on technology’s potential.
