My research interests relate to music and education. I am currently exploring the benefits of connecting music classes with local musicians through remixing activities. This has led me to develop Remix Portal, a web browser application that facilitates music remixing. It was deployed and evaluated within a school, and I am now in the process of scaling the application up to create a fully sustainable music remixing platform. Previous projects include the building of a computer simulation of a recording studio to help students learn stereo microphone techniques; I also created opportunities for interaction with audio within the lecture environment facilitated by Nintendo Wiimotes, and I created of a novel surround-sound mixing system. I also have experience in the health sphere having developed a game-based system to help people perform upper limb physiotherapy tasks following a stroke.
Prior to joining Open Lab as a researcher I spent seven years lecturing in Music and Audio Engineering at FE and HE levels at Perth College, University of the Highlands and Islands, and Glasgow Caledonian University.
