Arlind Reuter

I have a background in Psychology (University of Magdeburg, Germany) and specialised with a M.Sc. in Clinical and Health Psychology at Newcastle University. My research interest lies in the field of ageing and throughout my MRes in Digital Civics at Open Lab I have explored the possibilities that HCI offers older adults beyond the scope of assistive technologies only. I am interested in how older people can positively experience and make use of digital and community media technologies as part of their community practices.

Collaborating with the Elders Council of Newcastle, in particular the Older Voices radio team, a community radio show produced by older adults for older adults, I look at how participatory and community media can enhance civic participation in later life and support older adults in having their voices heard in their community and across the city.

In previous quantitative projects I have looked at well-being and social connectedness in later life in Berlin and investigated social networks / social isolation and loneliness in later life with a cross-cultural emphasis comparing German and English cohort studies (ELSA, DEAS).
