I completed my MA in Anthropology at Warsaw University. The research I conducted was designed to complement my professional work and answer the question of the role of internet and new media technologies in the political strategies of non-profit organisations. The study was comprised of two years of fieldwork, IDI’s and participant observation of communities around NGO’s and mediated through new media technologies practices of participation in political activism.

I’m interested in studying the political agency of new media technologies – the influence and active role that ICT has on the everyday life of citizens and communities. Also, I would like to develop the reflection on design of the ecosystems where political participation is mediated through new media technologies, evaluate strategies behind such environments and describe changes they cause in the social life of their users.

Before joining OpenLab I have lived in Warsaw, worked as a project manager, trainer and anthropologist in the field of digital social innovation. I love to cycle, read books and do nothing whilst in good company.

Measuring reality is one the ways people are trying to understand the world. Since the early development of science researches were looking for the ways to describe the phenomena’s that surrounded them. We know a lot about how to collect data, how to analyse them but most importantly, we also know what kind of knowledge we can build through the use of different research methods.

Opening the blackbox

Discussions over interpretations of the reality seem over-talked for many. They are long, nuanced and very often the point they make seems so small that it almost looks like splitting hairs. After reading about Lucy Suchman’s concept of Situated Action, I have realised that opening the door for new interpretations is also a very courageous thing to do.

Human ubiquity

The main character of a Weiser’s vision of 21st century life is a single woman named Sal (Weiser, 1991). As her day starts, she is asked about a coffee and answers only by mumbling, like if a question was asked not by a machine, but by a person close to her.
