Jack Holt

I graduated from Keele University with a BSc in Psychology with Music in 2012, for which I completed a final project that focussed on the effects of musical excerpts of differing valence and loudness on skin conductance and heart rate. My dissertation addressed the unpredictable effect of loudness when using physiological measures as indications of emotional responses to music.

Following graduation I completed a PgDip at the University of Birmingham, where I was introduced to programming in the context of computational neuroscience, and I have spent the last three years working part-time on a Computing and Information Technology MSc at Northumbria University alongside full-time work in order to broaden my range of technical knowledge. As part of this, I completed a dissertation on the subject of change blindness in interactive virtual environments.

Alongside my part-time postgraduate study I have worked in risk management in an acute NHS trust and in fundraising at a local hospice. At the latter, I developed a huge respect for hospices and their place in the community, and at Open Lab I currently hope to focus my research around those living with, or affected by, life-limiting illnesses.
