I have developed a specific interest in understanding how we can utilise placemaking and place marketing practises to change perceptions and foster a renewed sense of pride in our towns and cities. Following the completion of a master’s in Planning, I have worked at Transport for London as part of a team that developed the Future Streets Incubator programme. I have also spent time working with Rediscover Stockton (now Stockton BID) helping to develop cultural events as part of a £30 million regeneration of the town centre.

I have also spent time living in the Basque Country and Catalonia which has helped me to gain a deeper understanding of what nationality is and what the intricacies and complexities of national identities are. My undergraduate dissertation looked into how we can change perceptions of places particularly in post-industrial towns. I have since gone on to look at how the use of large-scale international events can help to shape a places identity and foster a stronger sense of place.
